The inconsistencies, inefficiencies and inconveniences of relying on solar power for cooking make the process less desirable. The cost/amount of conventional fuel used in cooking is negligible herein the states and does little to "save the planet." Now, in over-populated, equatorial, third-world countries where deforestation to provide fuel or there are significant health risks of burning dung in their small grass huts, then this makes sense.

And, welcome to the forum!

I've used a homemade solar oven made from a cardboard box, aluminium foil and glass. The temp only got to about 300 degrees, so it was more of a slow cooker and it took a long time, but it did work. The kind you picture would probably work better.

Stacy from "Homesteading with Doug and Stacy".on YouTube, is always cooking with one, and has a bunch of recipes. Chicken and beef. Different design than the one you posted, though.

The solar cooker shown (not an oven) makes great hot dogs. Pretty useless for most other things. A true oven basically just needs temperature monitoring to determine times. Stick a thermometer in the meat and cook to temp.
