We make our own soap. Have done so for almost 4 years now. It's all we use. We make our own laundry soaps as well. Nothing like good clean clothes without the chemicals that destroy your skin.

I make and sell my own soap as well. Goat milk soap. I make regular bath bars, kitchen bars (with coffee grounds to take away the onion and garlic smell) and I also make a plain lye/water/lard soap which I use for laundry, dishes and general household cleaning. I use a baking soda wash on my hair which is fantastic. I got the recipe from the Reformation Acres blog.

I make the soap for myself, Manthing, Manthing's parents, and four of our friends.
Soap is made from lard, palm kernal oil, olive oil and rice bran oil.

My bar contains kelp and a small amount french green clay. The other bars contain no other additives other than fragrance and/or essential oils.
It isn't as cheap as I can get some bar for at the store, but I know exactly what's going on my body and don't chance any weird breakouts or sensitivities.

Another soaper here. I make my own soap. I make mine with lard as well because it makes a fab bar of soap! No clogged pores here either as a matter of fact lots of people come to me for my soap because it helps clear them up. Love home made soap!

I switch off every other bar of Dove or Walmart Equate soap...
Lava for dirty hands.... A bottle of Head and Shoulders lasts me 2 years or more.. (bald)

Dawn dish soap(original), Cascade pods in the dish washer... Liquid Tide in the washer.... Bar Keepers Friend to clean toilets, sinks, and shower....

Another Soapmaker here. I've been making & selling my soaps for over 10 years. Combo of our fresh goat milk, essential oils, and a blend of 8 oils including lard from our own hogs. I sell at 3 farmers markets each week plus within 15 different gift shops/health food stores in the area. I KNOW customers like my soap because they come back for more. I am currently using goat milk soap from someone on this forum for hand washing. Still using up the commercial stuff in the shower. I do not know if the goat milk soap will leave residue all over the shower or not?

Home of only 2 elders. All our bar soap is home made the last 10 years.I enjoy making it and it's only a once a year hobby for me. Usually an olive oil and coconut mix but I've used veg.shortening too which made an OK nice hard bar and I figure is just a good thing to know,like for "preparedness" or whatever.ha. I have Dr.B on hand too for stinky sweat days....it just seems to work best. I add tea tree and usually clove oil for one batch of my bar soap and just essential mints and maybe clove for another batch(we both love clove). Laundry is 90% the borax/washing soda/Fels recipe but I add some blue commercial for harder stains and artificial freshening scent,like when I do dog blankets. Dishes we got used to seventh gen and still support them.Shampoo a "natural" brand but the hubby gets a commercial dandruff brand too.

I make my own Castille liquid for shampoo and tallow and Castille types for bar soap. Tallow jelly soap for baked on grease, home made fels naphtha type laundry soap and I confess I still buy dawn for dishes. I have not found a home made soap I like as well for dishes, but since I'm fairly new to soap making, maybe playing w lye percentage will give a better result? My fave is liquid Castille w 20% coconut. I know it's not true Castille that way but I'm not sure what else to call it.
Costs vary and are hard to track. Tallow for soap was bartered for, etc so I only know it saves me money

in use zuma bars for shower, Spring Lake for laundry from farm and fleet and Original Palmolive green for dishes. bestest degreaser around second only to Dr. B. I keep a dish soap bottle full of bleach water on the sink too.(tbs to qt) I give it a shot when using palmolive and BOY does it work! It'll take fish smell out of plastic immediately. It even tells you on the bottle 'do not mix ith bleach' - which is, of course, why I do it! It's because Palmolive increases the bleach affect. Don't know how, but you can smell it. But it rinses off right away. No lasting affect.

Bleach water takes care of a lot of things. I have never and will never buy disinfectant wipes. Soap, by its very nature is anti-microbial.

Just rinsing w water does most of the job thru dilution. If 98% of bacteria are washed away, your body can deal w the other 2%. But yeah, that has no effect on fish smell in plastic! Haha

I buy bar soap my friend makes. I took a class from her as to how to make it but I have never tried it on my own. For dish soap I buy whatever's on sale. I use goats milk laundry soap from a gal in our local food co-op.

I make my own soap as well. I make several different kinds including a special flax-seed soap for older dry facial skin. My husband love it! I also make creams for the skin as well and special soaps for babies and children.

Another soap maker here too (for family/friends). I out-did myself this year and made up eight batches. I make oatmeal/honey, lavender, peppermint, tea tree oil, coffee and cream, healing clay, and plain no scent bars. This year, for Christmas, I decided I would wrap up a few bars and give them to neighbors and coworkers also instead of sweets (as it seems everyone I know is allergic to something!). I feel so pampered using homemade soap (compared to those smelly chemical cheap bars I use to buy).

Goats Milk Soap or other natural types. I sometimes buy or barter for it.

Dial gold bar soap (Sam's Club). I take off the wrapping and let the bars dry out over time before they get used. They last longer.

Xtra laundry soap from Menards or Walmart. Cheap and works fine. Cascade dishwasher and Dawn dish soap.

I'm a long way from having the time and inclination to make my own. Just give me something cheap that works,

I make our bar (bath) soap. Usually just lye/lard but sometimes add lavender, honey, tea tree, etc. Dishes I use Dawn, and laundry I sometimes make my own using feels Martha, washing soda, and borax. Sometimes, though, dh will buy something from Dollar General.
