Just read Momof5's story and was thrilled to see that it came out so well. Who else here is adopting and what's the story?

We are foster parents in the process of adopting an 11 month old and a 4 year old, (unrelated) we are waiting to hear about the 11 month olds brother who is 6.

The parents have been TPR'd for the baby and the 4 yr old, we have been through the appeals and are waitng to see if they (the parents) take it any further. We have had these darlins' in our home since last Dec., and are anxious to have it done. The GAL and mom of the boys (baby and 6 year old) want to keep them together with us, it's the dad that is making it a problem....

Good luck!!!! We have sucessfully adopted once, and had one fail. The failed one broke my heart, I quit fostering, just can't do it again. The one we did adopt is now 16 and is doing great, and I'm blessed.

Started fostering my daughter when she was 5 and adopted her when she was 11. She's now 18 and graduates from high school in June. She's been a blessing.

We adopted a boy in California in '76, very adorable but had lots of problems in school. Finally figured out many years later that he had fetal alcolhol syndrome. Told him about it just a few weeks before he died when he was 21. Adopted or not it is very, very WRONG for your children to die before you do.
Adopted a half brother and sister in Washington. She took off at 15, he at 18. Haven't seen him since '97, saw her first time in 9 years last Xmas. Don't want to even try renewing that relationship.
Adopted DGD's mom in Washington, she was placed with us when her adoption placement failed. It was supposed to be temporary, but we don't think the caseworker ever bothered to find a new placement. She was diagnosed at 13 with fetal alcolhol syndrome after many years of frustration with therapists. She is pretty useless, but she did give us this wonderful granddaughter. BTW, we just got permanent custody on Monday!!!!!!
Not surprisingly, we are not advocates for adoption. We feel that every effort should be made to keep the children in the family. Failing that we believe the children should be put in permanent foster care with one family rather than perpetrating the lie that is adoption. An exception would be for infant adoption.

We adopted 6 years ago. It has been a wonderful experience. She will be 10 in December and is a perfect fit for our family. Can't imagine life without her. :) Yes, we plan to adopt again.

Congrats to you! Please keep us posted! :)

DH and I have thought about adopting as well, but how does one go about 'fostering'? We've always been drawn to the seminars where they discuss adopting a child from overseas.

We returned home from Russia two months ago today from adopting our son. He'll be 15 months old on the 27th. Going straight to being the parents of an active toddler after being a childless couple sure has been an eye-opening experience! :p
