I have been watching some of the real survival shows on TV, Survivorman, etc. They have shown the use of snares for hunting small game. However, can a person use a snare to catch and kill a large animal like a deer in a SHTF incident? Would New Zealand fence wire, rope, cable, grape vines, or other items be used to make the snare? What is used for the lock? Just trying to start a discussion on this matter and not get into a flaming debate about killing, meat eating, vegetarian, etc.

I've never saw it done but if you set out a snare that a deer walks into so that two or even one leg gets caught in, you've got the deer, like a bull dogger at the rodeo, if you get a leg, at least the animal will be caught if the snare in strong enough to hold it til you make your rounds. that cable that was used to pull glider planes is strong and light.
I would rather have a cross bow or compound bow myself, it would be my luck if i did snare one, something else would eat it before i got there.
