slimy iceberg lettuce

    I was so excited to see my Spring garden do so well--especially the peas and lettuces--but the iceberg was a major disappointment. It made beautiful looking heads, but they turned black and slimy inside and quickly rotted. What went wrong, and what can I do to avoid this next year?
