OK...I planted a couple pyramidal arborvitae bushes in front of my house at each end 3-4 yrs ago so I could decorate them for xmas each year. They grew much faster than I expected and now are about a foot or so over the top of the roof line. I would like to have them be in the same shape but shorter. How would I go about this? Hedge trimmers? Do I need to prune out each branch? I am afraid if I do that the result will be choppy...not the smooth look we have now. Is this too much to cut off at one time? I would like to do it Sunday as it will be warm (50!).
