Scalding ideas

    Just thought I would see how many creative ideas i could get for building myself a scalder..55 gallon barrel over an open fire probably gonna be the path of least resistance for me.. What do you guys/ladies use.

    We use the 55 gallon barrel..

    Lay the pig on an old pallet - helps keep the dirt off and put a burlap sack over him and scald him when you pull the sack off sure makes for less scrapping.

    Add Old Bauldy Hog Scald to that and you will have a quick and easy time of it.

    Do you just dip the burlap sack in the water or the hog and the burlap sack? I have heard of people pouring the water over the hog instead of dipping thats why I ask. Thanks for the info

    We ususally lay the pig on a old pallet and throw the sack over him and pour the hot water over him.
