We have had an awful time with this pig farrowing. We lost another piglet to what looks like suffocation maybe. It was buried in the shavings - they are burrowing in it regularly but usually raise their heads. They were born Saturday night. Any thoughts on which would work better?

Sorry to hear of the bad times with the farrowing. I think hay will work best. They can breathe shavings and sawdust. Best wishes,

Sorry about your loss it's always hard to lose an animal even if your haven't had them that long.
Your best bet for bedding for piglets though is straw. The Hog farmer down the road told us not to use sawdust cause of the rooting they do the sawdust or shavings can cause alot of respitory problems in them.
