Hi everyone! I have done extensive research after taking one of my cats to the ER vet last night for throwing up roundworms. It was a nightmare- he threw up three times, had a fever, and needed fluids. They prescribed my one cat Panacur but refused to give me more for my second cat, which I do understand buttttt I do need to deworm my second cat as well. I’m afraid he might suffer the same and I won’t be able to help him. I live in the city btw so it’s very expensive, was $150 just for the consultation…… I unfortunately won’t be able to take my other cat to the vet until the 1st of next month so pls don’t judge. I was trying to buy something I could get quickly without a prescription so if anyone can PLEASE give me the correct dosage using safeguard it would be greatly appreciated. I keep reading different instructions. My cat is 10 lbs. I’ve ordered it and it will be here tomorrow. Thank you thank you to anyone who can help!!!!

Panacur 10% is a white oral suspension of fenbendazole as a ready to administer oral anthelmintic for domestic dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. 1 ml contains 100 mg active ingredient fenbendazole.
Dose of 1ml per 1kg bodyweight as a single dose for routine worming.

Thank you! Do you know what type of panacur the first one was talking about? I do see these type of dosages but I also see that the horse paste is only 10% compared to the cat and dog 18% and some people saying to use a higher dosage when using horse paste for dogs but don’t know about cats.

At that strength, it would be the higher volume dose using the horse paste. It is only half as strong as the dog/cat medication you mentioned.

Check the mg of the chemical per ml of medication. I haven’t found 18% available for cats. I did find that strength for rabbits.

I understand the concentration needed for each species - but 4 cc's (or ml's) for a typical 8 pound cat is - problematic. The taste of Safeguard suspension, same Panacur 10% concentration, (yes, I've tested it myself to see what the palatability for my cat might be), and it is very salty and very unpleasant. One would have to refill a slender 1 ml syringe with the stuff, while keeping the cat ready for the next shot, and again, and again. After the 1st - good luck. I've tried mixing it with canned cat food, infant chicken puree, hairball malt gel, and all it does it render it a larger portion you must get down the cat's throat. For this reason I stick with Pyrantel Pamoate liquid for roundworms, and the combo pill Drontal (doused in a bit of infant puree) for Roundworms and Tapeworms. Pyrantel Pamoate has the benefit of being acceptable flavor to pets for some odd reason (it's similar to a mild banana flavor which I quite liked myself ). Cats shouldn't like banana, but I suppose it's at least not shockingly bitter or salty that immediately makes them rebel.

I should also add that the Pamoate suspension in the similar large bottles like Panacur is 50mg/ml concentration, and the average cat needs only a 1/2 ml (it's not the same dosage as fenbendazole), so half-fill the slender 1ml syringes, a little squirt and YOU ARE DONE.
Repeat in 3-4 weeks, and for good measure a 3rd dose after that.

Bleach soak and clean all litterboxes and litter mats. Hot wash blankets, bed covers etc...
