I posted this on Melissa's forum also but haven't gotten a reply.

Since this will be a prep item I thought it might be ok to post here also.

I am planning to buy a rotary egg beater. I've found several on the net. But was wondering if anyone knows of a brand that is better than others. Also do you have a link to a trusted dealer. I've already checked out Lehmans they are TOO expensive. 49.00

I use a big wire whisk for most liquid type mixing....and a spoon for thicker dough or cake mixes. I can't remember the last time I used an electric mixer for anything.

I have an antique hand mixer from my great grandmother, with the handle you crank and the mixer blades that go 'round, but it's too old and rusty to use.

Hit the local antique shops thats how we found ours. I don't remember what we paid for it but I doubt if it was more that $10 or $15. Most of the new ones are junk the gears don't mesh right.
This is what I was afraid of in buying a new one.

Mom_of_Four, I have arthritis in my hands and it makes it hard to use a wire whisk. I have several of them and use them when making gravy or something that don't take long.

The antique hand mixer your talking about is what I'm looking for. The old ones use to work really well, almost as well as an electric.

See, I'm an antique too.

Ah, I didn't know about your arthritis....I often wonder what I'd do since arthritis runs in my family. I use hand crank can openers and everything else manual.

Check on eBay, I see antique egg beaters and lots of other old stuff for sale, most of it still functional.

Here's one for $9.99 that says "vintage"

Here's one that ends in 30 minutes. Shipping and all is about $10 and it has a nice handle on the side.

Here is a link to the one that I have. I use it for scrambled eggs, but I get out the electric one when I am making a cake. (I think that the hand crank one would work, but it would take longer.) It is only $17.00. I doubt that it is as good as the antiques, but I have had no problems with it.

I have bought from this company many times and have had no problems.

I bought a really nice stainless steel hand beater with nylon gears off the kitchen aisle at the "hated" Walmart. Ecko brand runs less than $10 and is a joy to use AND clean especially with the slightly slanted holding handle.

This sounds like the one I have. I'm not doing a lot of rotary beating, so it works out just fine for my use.

I have arthritis & carpel tunnel and for me a whisk is much easier to use than the egg beater. I have several sizes of whisks and the ones with the larger round handles work best for my hands. I have a hand mixer and stand mixer and as long as I have electricity I'm using them! I have two or three egg beaters (what grandma and mom always called them). I've used them occasionally but like I said they are much harder to use than a whisk. I also had one with the slanted handle which I really hated. It got donated to Goodwill.
