I made two of these because my hands literally turn purple when cold. Bear with me as I'm not good at describing how I made these.

I took 2-eight-inch squares, serged the edges and sewed them together on three sides. Filled them (not too full) with rice and sewed that end shut.

I repeated that again and THEN, I sewed the two bags together on three sides, making a pocket between them to slip my hand into.

I keep one in the kitchen for when I'm handling cold stuff. I microwave the bag and slip my hand into it. Pure heaven!

wonderful idea, Ardie - can you just make me a rice body bag!?!?!?
Ahhh, wouldn't that be wonderful!?

Regarding the hand warmers, when I sewed the separate bags, I kept the fabrici wrong-side-together so the sergered seams showed. It was easier to manage the rice.

These aren't pretty BTW but they're functional and WARM!

That's a great idea. I have arthritis in my hands and think the hand warmers would help.
