My mom gave me dads purple heart ,bronze star and another medal after dad passed away.My brother is having a frame and box made for the flag and has asked me for the medals to put in it also.I really dont want to give them up.Would it be possiable to get replacements to give him?Am I being a dummy should I just give him the originals?They are from ww2.Mary

There are provisions for replacement medals, When I am awake I will post the address, and info. I need the DD214 number to do this for you, or you can contact them yourself. PM me with this if you are uncomfortable with this.

You can request replacement medals using SF 180 and sending it to the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. If you do not have your dad's military records you can request them on the same form. Lots are missing, but it doesn't hurt to try. In Section 2 of the form write "medals and service record" or something along those lines.

There is no fee for replacement medals but it does take a while to get them.
