    Hi All,

Have found an old asparagus patch that has about 40 plants..
They have all gone to seed.

What should I do to this "Patch" so that I have some asparagus to harvest next year ?

    Thanks.

Give it some fertilizer, and cut off the tops AFTER they die in the fall.

Once asparagus is established, it needs little care.

we are in the process of rehabing a 1/4 acre patch at the neigbours! they are off and gone now that they are retired and their son was supposed too take care of the place. we are going too mow once the grass and tops die . have already spread lots of composted cattle manure and are going too topdress with aged horse manure this fall, then potash and urea come spring. grass is the big thing , had heard of salting the rows but not sure how much or when (or if it works!) as the grass grows very well in this patch!

Mow or burn after a hard frost or in early spring.

Roundup can be applied when the grass gets started in spring, be careful the asparagus hasn't come up yet.

Salt can help, but I don't know how much to use. Old timers here put the juice from the Easter ham on their patch, but my grandpa killed his that way.
