I found expensive hiking backpacks at second hand shops. It took a year but I got one for everyone & never paid more than $5 for them.
Solar battery charger

Cast iron baking pans. (biscuit pan, pie pan, and cake pans)
Ditto on these at second hand stores. I had to do some serious cleaning and then re-seasoning but I got some beautiful pots for $2 each!
Stranger, I may have just figured out what to get the men on my dh's side of the family. TY
a cake pan with a metal lid????
I think I'll put the Coleman folding oven on my list. I'm really pretty well stocked but I do buy practical things for my nephews that are starting out.
The Adventure® Medical Kits POCKET SURVIVAL PAK™ a pocket-sized, high quality pocket survival kit. About $30.

all we have been giving since 1986 are the Eagles, even to yr old GKs, they don't play with them but they aren't in the trash on the 26th either.
now we don't even buy the fancy valvet box. this yr, i think we paid 14 a piece for them, but any gift is more than that but none will last as long.
You guys are perfectly timed. I just got my birthday card from my in-laws, and it had the usual check for as many years as I am old in it (45 this time, for the curious). I was thinking of getting myself that Coleman oven, but wondering what other fun prep things I might get. ('Course, I might cheat and spend what remains on books....)
ailsaek, My mom got me Back to Basics for my birthday! I love getting books for presents.

a cake pan with a metal lid is just that, a 9x13 cake pan that comes with a metal lid that stays on & doesn't break or metl!

WN, I didn't know that about a turkey fryer! I saw one at a yard sale this summer, too! Next time I will grab it.
Cheryl in SD, that was a good buy on the rotary egg beater. As for the cast iron, all I need is a biscuit pan, pie, and cake pans. I have all kinds of other cast iron.

2 different size dutch ovens with legs
corn bread stick pan
3 qt. dutch oven that sits on top of the stove with lid
chicken frier with lid
2-10" fry pans with lids
2 qt. pot with handle with lid
10" round griddle
12" round griddle
rectangle griddle that fits over two burners
large wok

Probably more I have put away that I don't remember. Those are just the ones I keep handy.
