Those of you who have been on the board a long time may remember my grandson, Cole, cancer survivor. He is now 14.

He is having emergency surgery for bowel obstruction. Please pray.

He was in surgery for about an hour and fifteen minutes. Good news. Only adhesions choking the small bowel. Old scar tissue from the 25 radiation cancer treatments years ago. The scar tissue is cleared out now.

He will have to pee and poop before he goes home, and that may be a week.

Thank you guys for rallying. It means a lot.

He's been in my thoughts quite a bit recently and I'm glad to get an update, even if the circumstances were less than idea.

What a relief for you and your family, and wonderful that it was adhesions rather than a true impaction.

The surgeon was worried that there could have been dead bowel. There wasn’t, thank goodness.

My son was worried about finding a mass, even though Cole had a clear annual checkup at St. Jude in November. His first question to the doctor was about that. Huge relief that she saw no unexpected tissue.

The plan is for him to be up and walking about 10:00 this morning and walk to get his bowels moving.

Some kidney function concerns, but doc is optimistic. Having to juggle meds to control pain (still high), get him off opiates (constipating), and not impair kidney function.
