Yesterday afternoon, as my daughter and her family were preparing to leave Lubbock to come to Dallas for the holiday, her husband suffered a major asthma attack and passed out. Ambulance EMT's were unable to get him breathing and rushed him to the hospital. He's now in ICU on a breathing machine, paralyzed by meds, and she's trying to take care of two small kids who can't be in the ICU area. His BP got to 211/180 but there's no heart damage. She has no family out there and all her friends are either out of town or at relatives, etc.. for the holiday. His parents are driving there (10 hr. drive), and I'll probably fly out tonight. Please keep Charles, Cassie, and their family in your prayers. Thanks.

Steve, the paralytic is because he was fighting against the vent, and they were unable to ventilate him well.
While a very serious situation, barring him suffering brain damage from o2 deficit along the way before intubation,he should come out of this OK,most cases like this have a good resolution.

They will load him up with bronchodilation meds, paralytic, steroids for inflammation (forgot that) and most likely a sedative, then wean him off.May take a day or several days, odds are way in his favor, statistically,of a good outcome.
