Around here they use St. Patricks day... I still use the old German (I think) Good Friday. Almanac had 1st and 2nd of March and 28th and 29th for best days to plant below ground crops. (I'm planning on Good Friday. Last year I planted 1/3 of our potatoes on St. Patricks day, 1/3 on a best for below ground crops day ((in early - mid March)) and 1/3 on Good Friday. The Good Friday planting was 1 1/2 times the size of either of the other 2 plantings.)

Mine have been in the ground for 3 weeks now. They are popping up pretty good this week. Around your area I would wait until at least St. Ptricks day.

Any time the soil is dry enough to work this time of year. You should be able to plant a number of other things.
