    I don't remember how many designs I drew up and then stared at for hours until I saw "all" the problems.

    Then I picked the "perfect" one.

    I built the fences and put in all the gates, and the first time I used one of the sections, the sheep informed me I had put the gate on the wrong side, so they showed me where they preferred to go through to get back to the barn without going around my way ;).

    I should have asked them sooner so as to not have to install that extra gate in the correct corner. They wanted the shortest route.

    That is pretty much what I meant. Let them in, see what they do, and work that plan. Sometimes it is easier to work with them than try to make them do what we want. I like doing easy when handling several ton of critters.
