Has anyone had any experience with the piney woods cattle? I have been reading about them and they seem like they would be very good for a homestead.

I am not sure if this is what you are talking about. There used to be wild cattle in East Texas called woods cattle . They were described as wild cattle in the woods and were rounded up or shot for meat. They were known not to be fenceable so the original strains where not used on homesteads. I don't know if any modern cattle are from that bloodline. I raise cattle and have never heard of the breed as being used today.
