Which route would you say is better: 70 or 80?

My Dad in San Jose, California has decided to sell his house, and so a few of us kids will be going out to assist with the project of selling his home and helping him to move.

Not recently, but I did that route, both directions, west on 80 and east on 70, back in October/November.

If I get to do it again, I’d do 70 both ways. I think it’s a little longer, but 70 is the much prettier and more engaging trip.

Both have decent rest stops and gas stations, but 80 is the more boring route. If you’re looking for speed and an uneventful trip, 80 is probably the better choice, but, if you want stuff to look at and more than the occasional steering input, go 70.

DH says thank you VERY! MUCH! and we will be taking 70!

DH wanted to travel after he retired, but he retired at the height of COVID. So we stayed home. And, now that I need to be in California next month to help my Dad move I believe that DH would like to have a bit of FUN with this trip.
