I'm in the process of painting a train that has wood exteror somewhat like vertivle pine boards. I want to paint a 4" wide stripe down the side and am using an airgun. Is there a simple way to mask or paint so I don't have to work the tape into all the V's in the wood to make the stripe.

You will want to consider painting the strip first. Then mask the strip off and you will not have to contend with all the overspray that you would have if you paint the strip last.
