So, once a person has been approved for SSDI, ( social security disability income) what other benefits are available? Not necessarily through SS, but through state, or other organizations? I'm trying to help someone, but am at a loss.

Thanks

Medicare/medicaid, food stamps, home energy help program, housing subsidy, and if they have children they are eligible for a whole slew of additional programs. But this does vary according to state and sometimes county.

Well the thing about Medicare, once approved for SSDI there is a 24 Month Waiting period.
So Medicare may not be in the picture if just getting approved.
Medicaid possible IF the income level is low enough and I mean LOW.
OH ya With the approval of Food Stamps you then can get one of those Free Cell Phones with 250 minutes free each month. LOL

You don't have to be on food stamps to get the free phone. Income level has to be low, and with SSDI it will be low enough.

You can call 211 to see what benefits are available in your area.

but if you are married and file jointly you will probably be denied any other assistance. They make it hard and unfair to most
