I've got tons of oat hay, cut green with the oat heads in the milk stage. The hay contains the oat heads and leafs off the stem.

rabbits really love it.


ok to free feed this? I've been leaving pfau pellets in the feeder as well and a rabbit salt lick.

Will the does get too fat? Will the feeder rabbits not put on much weight?

Should be fine as a free fed hay. At that stage the stems have similar nutritional value to grass hay. The oat heads would give a little more energy but nothing that they aren't getting in pellets. Some people supplement with whole grains or even feed grains (along with other things) and no pellets.

Oat hay is great! The rabbit love it. We even used it as filler for the nest boxes.

And we had a great crop of oat hay grow up around the rabbit hutches.
