Not that I would ever do this, but how hard is it to AI a goat?

Anyone have experience with artificial inseminization out here? Is it difficult? Expensive? Or are you just better off to find someone with a buck?

It's definitely challenging but gets easier with practice. It's possible to A.I. a goat without a buck anywhere nearby but your chances of success are much reduced with the decreased heat detection (heat detection is VITAL with A.I.).

Lastly, it's expensive unless your alternative is buying a registered buck for $700-$800.

My costs for getting into A.I. were roughly as follows:

Used tank: $200 (this was a steal)
    A.I. kit: $150
    nitrogen: $100 per year
    semen: $200+
