I live in Zone 5 in Nebraska and I love pecans. Does anyone here grow northern pecan trees? Am thinking about getting a couple but want to know if it's worth it. What kind of pecans do these trees produce? Are they large or small? How long before they start producing nuts? Is the crop large enough to make it worthwhile?

Hi Seagrape
I have several pecan varieties that I ordered from
http://www.burntridgenursery.com/nutTrees/index_product.asp?dept=59&parent=
They are supposed to be northern most stock adapted to the shortest growing season. I planted them 3 years ago and they haven't started bearing yet, but hopefully they'll start in the next year or two. They are growing well though despite serious animal damage. The website says they are appropriate down to zone 4.

Thanks, Mike. I checked out Burnt Ridge Nursery. May order from them soon and plant in the spring. :D
