Sidewalk Chalk

1 cup Plaster of Paris
1/2 cup of water
powdered tempera paint
Something to use as a mold *
Directions:

Mix the water, Plaster of Paris and powdered tempera paint. The more tempera paint you add, the deeper the color of the chalk will be. Then pour the mixture into you mold.

For Molds you can use:

Toilet Paper Roll: A toilet paper roll works as a mold. Just seal one end with duct tape and pour the mixture into the mold and let it dry. When I use toilet paper rolls I like to let it dry for over 24 hours. You can line the toilet paper roll with wax paper so that the chalk will easily slide out.

Egg Cartons: Egg cartons are nice because you can do numerous different colors in one mold.

Dixie Cups: 5 ounce dixie cups also work well.

Film Cannisters: Just line with wax paper and the chalk will slide right now.

Lip Gloss

Ingredients:
1-cup Apricot Kernel oil, Almond Oil, or Grape seed oil (I used grape seed)
¼ cup Beeswax
1-Tablespoon Honey
Flavoring oil (this cannot be an extract because extracts are alcohol based and do not mix well with oil)

Optional: Alkanet Root. The root of this flower yields a coloring agent that dyes the oil to a red color. Alkanet also adds healing protection for the lips.

1)Gently heat the oil and melt the beeswax in it.
2)When the beeswax is completely melted, remove from heat and stir in honey and flavoring oil. Add enough flavoring oil to give a nice flavor. Try with a few drops first, stir, and taste.
3)When flavored correctly, take one Tablespoon of the mix and put it in the refrigerator. It will cool quickly allowing you to test the consistency before pouring into your small containers. If too hard, add more oil; if too soft, add more beeswax.
4)Pour into containers and let harden.

This recipe yields a lot. I made 12 of the tins and had some left over that I placed in 4 small Tupperware containers (condiment size). Be prepared with containers 

To use Alkanet Root:

1)For each cup of oil, add 2-3 Tablespoons of alkanet. Stir over a low heat in a small pan for about 10 minutes. For a rich, red colored lip-gloss, the oil should look almost black in the pan. For a soft pink colors gloss, the oil should look a deep rich red. The color changes once it has been poured. When the desired color is reached, strain the oil through cheesecloth. Discard the herbs and return the oil to the pan.
2)Continue with steps 2-4

Oobleck
The perfect play glop:

Mix two parts cornstarch and one part water together. Stir the mixture until it begins to thicken.
To create unusual effects, a teaspoon or two of food colorings can be added.

The surface is hard and crusty, but scoop it up and it’s fluid enough to pass though a strainer. Supply kids with spoons, plastic shovels, funnels or various kitchen utencils. All can be cleaned up with soap and water.

Play Dough
Combine 1 ½ cup flour, 1 cup salt, and 1 Tablespoon powdered alum (found in the spice aisle). Add 1 Tablespoon oil and 1 cup boiling water. Stir the mixture until cool, then knead in food coloring.
Keep in airtight containers – can last for months. If it does dry out, you can rejuvenate by resealing it in a container after sprinkling with water. After a day or so, take it out and knead it.

Play Dough Advanced
For a firmer dough with a nicer texture.

In a saucepan, blend together 3 cups flour, 1 ½ cups salt, 3 cups of water, 2 Tablespoons cooking oil, 1 Tablespoon cream of tartar, and a few drops of food coloring. Cook the mixture slowly, stirring constantly until the dough comes away from the side of the pan and you can no longer move the spoon. Remove the mixture from the pan; when cool, knead it for 3-4 minutes until smooth, and you’re ready for action.

Keep in airtight containers. If it dries out, add a few drops of oil or water.

Move over Billy Mays! Here's a homemade version that works just as well.

1 cup hot water
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide

Soak clothes overnight if you're removing old stains or blood.

This recipe will work just as well as those expensive Crest white strips:

Take one ripe strawberry, mash with a fork until it is a smooth puree. Mix with that one level tablespoon of baking soda and mix well. Cover teeth with mixture and leave on for 5 minutes. Rinse well and brush your teeth like normal. Do this once a week for 3 or 4 weeks and you'll have a smile like the Orbit gum girl !! You only want to do this once a week because more often will make the powerful citric acids eat into the enamel of the teeth.

Doggie ear drops

16 oz of alcohol (at least 70%)
16 drops Gentian Violet
teaspoon boric acid

Mix well in the original alcohol bottle. Shake before each use. Depending on how bad the ear is use enough to flush the ear. Rub ear gently for 3 minutes or longer and then let the dog shake head. Wait at least 20 minutes before attempting the clean discharge from ear.
