Why is it that you cannot buy baby turkeys late enough to have a young, fresh turkey on turkey day?

How young you want? there are still turkey poults to be found. Murry McMurry sells broad breasted varietys through June, and others through August. I"m sure there are others.

i bought some last year in the middle of july. this year because i need a lot more, they are coming in two weeks.

last year's were 14-24 pounds. i'm shooting for 13-30 pounds this year.

i do plan on taking some in for slaughter in october to make sure i get smaller birds that some folks want. the rest will go the monday before thanksgiving.

after june-july, most poults go to the commercial growers.

I find it silly that you can't HUNT for turkey's around thanksgiving, out of season.
