    Hello everybody

'just wanted to introduce myself and say hello, have been reading the forum for a week - feels like being amongst friends already.

My Family - wife, teenage daughter and 11 year old son are set to move to a new place in about 5 weeks its got about six acres which isnt much of a "Pondersosa" to many of you guys over there but here in the crowded south of England its OK . we're all looking forward to a big adventure with fingers crossed over the next few years with livestock etc. I work in the oil exploration business so having a little homestead will be a complete change to come home to. looking forward being part of this forum.

    best regards
    Steve

    Welcome, Steve!

Don't worry about the size of your land. Homesteading is wherever you can live as self-sufficiently as possible. Heck, right now, I'm "burbsteading" on 1/3 acre.

Glad you can join us, and all the best for you and yours on your new 'stead!

    Pony!

Welcome to an informative place. Your place is plenty big enough, although I always find myself wanting more land and space. You'll be able to do ALOT with your 6 acres. Just sit back, grab a cup o' joe, and read til you fall asleep.

Enjoy your stay. Lots of great people on this side of the pond.

Welcome Steve, and consider yourself warned ~ this place is addictive!! You'll soon be talking about us just like we were family! "Honey, did I tell you what so 'n so said today?". Enjoy your land. You can do a lot on 6 acres.

Welcome Steve! Hope you and the missus will join in regularly to share. What I remember from your country was how many gardens there were. Even homes with no gardens had lovely windowboxes. What area are you in in terms of gardening? Near the coast, therefore warm? Are are gardening zones equivalent to anything there?

Here is a website about some Americans who are growing lots of their food sustainably and making a living selling some on less than an acre of land:

Now you won't get anything done.....this website has so much to read!
