For the last week, I thought there was a magic forum I had to go to to be allowed to post but I see it was just a matter of patience. Too bad I have none. ;) I'm so glad I can finally post, I have SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.

I'm Miranda; I live in NW WI with DH, DD (2.5), and DS (5 months). We have ~18 acres, one about 8 in pasture, the other 10 in mixed wood and field. We *had* a dozen pullets and six guinea keets until some :flame: neighbor's dog came around and nailed all the birds the day after I finally let them out of the coop for the first time. So now we have one auracana who's managed to survive (at least as of Wednesday...). We have a cat and a Catahoula, as well. I plan on picking a couple Saanen doelings up next week or the week after, if they haven't all been sold. I'd lovelovelove to get a Dexter or a Highland cow, but I think I'll start with the goats and see how it goes. A pig or two is also on my list. And if we can finish the chicken yard, more hens. I can't get used to having to go to the store for eggs. :Bawling:

Brace yourselves for a deluge of questions! I'm one of those :nerd: who likes to do a ton of research and then ignore it. ;)

    Hello, and welcome.

You might want to put up a few strands of electric wire so that dog doesn't do to your goats what it did to your keets :hobbyhors

Welcome cmonkey and mkh - you're going to love it here :)

Having lived most of my life now far from Catahoula, Louisiana -- I'm surprised to learn how popular the Catahoula Hound is becoming.

    Hugs

How do and welcome from Louisiana. This site is so informational and helpful. I agree that you should use the search feature. It will help more than you can ever know.

Sorry to hear about your birds. I lost a rabbit earlier this week. :Bawling: Dogs make me so mad!!!! :flame:
That situation is about to be resolved in a very nice manner and the dog will be out of the picture.

Come on in, stay awhile, and have a good time.
