New rabbit off feed

925 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  dnurse
I just got my 13th rabbit at a show this weekend. It is doing okay eating hay & has taken a few greens/banana slice, but doesn't seem very interested in pellets. I feed Manna Pro & all my rabbits clean it up. Any suggestions on how to get this new one (4 mths old) to take to the pellets? He doesn't have any signs of illness & is quite active. Thanks, Donna

When mine go off feed, I give them day-old bread and grass hay along with the pellets. They love hot dog and hamburger buns and the buns don't fall through the wire like the sliced bread does. The bread seems to get them eating again and keeps them from losing weight. I give it to them 2 or 3 times a week until I notice the pellet consumption pick up. If I notice their stools getting soft, I back off the bread and increase the hay. It's worked well for me.

Make sure the rabbit has access to fresh water at least twice a day and that it is drinking. If a rabbit is not cosuming water they will not eat.

Thanks Robin. I have the problem solved. I was able to email the breeder & found she was feeding Purina Show Formula. Usually I find out the feed type from the dealer or get some from them, but it was crazy at the show & I lost track of her. Fortunately she gave me her card with her email on it. Found a dealer & had to buy a 50# bag. As soon as I put it in his bowl, he was chowing down and hitting the water! She said he also like Italian bread so he had that today before I got the feed. We're back on track. Thanks a bunch! Donna
