Yesterday I heard that my 20-year old nephew was in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the ankle - shattered the bone, requiring surgery right away. It seems he was cleaning his gun and shot himself accidentally. His mom said he was so embarassed that he didn't want any visitors. He's been taught better, he knows better (we thought), but... Well, he's got more than a month to make up a less embarassing story to explain the crutches to his friends at school, if the truth hurts so much. Myself, l I think he should tell them all the real story- a cautionary tale, you know. Kids can always hear one more lesson about being careful.

What size gun? He is about the right age to think an ankle holster is cool or necessary.

I have no idea what kind or size of gun it was. If he was using an ankle holster, I hope he gets rid of it. He can't afford to shoot the other side.

I knew a budding quick draw artist who hung the front sight on his holster, had the finger on the trigger, and shot his foot. He still feels stupid.
