My grandson, Cole, age 2 3/4 had an MRI this morning at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. He is being admitted to the hospital tomorrow, Wednesday, for a bone scan. There is something wrong with his hip, and there appears to be a mass in his abdomen. The doctors are saying it could be a bone infection, or it could be cancer.

    We are terribly frightened.

    Please pray.

My son put more info out. This is his message:
We took Cole (my 2 1/2 year old son) to the ER on Saturday becuase he was having some pain in left leg that was causing him to limp really badly. It was so bad that he would not even walk from the truck to the playground equipment when we went to the park. After about 6 hours in the ER, 3 trips to the X-ray machine, and lab tests, they pretty much ruled out their biggest fear, septic hip. He had a normal white count, and his total blood count was normal.

We had a follow up yesterday with the bone doctors, and he had improved just a little, but not enough for the docs to be comfortable, so they ordered an MRI. We went in for the MIR this morning and the results are not good. He has some kind of lesion on both femurs, and the middle of his bones don't look normal. The MRI also found some kind of mass in his lower abdomen.

The combonation of things has the doctors here really concerned. We will go back to Balboa tomorrow for a more complete set of work ups to include a bone scan, CT scan of his abdomen, and a lot more blood work. If none of that gets any results, they will probably do a biopsy on his femurs in the next day or so.

The doc said that if he had to guess right now, it is either a serious bone infection, leukemia, or possibly a type of cancer called nueroblastoma.

I am pretty much as scared as a man can get right now. Everyone, please pray for my son. If you have not met him, he is the greatest kid ever. He is active, and fun, and a total joy to be around. He lights up every room that he has ever been at, he is a hit at any party. Everyone loves Cole, and he does not deserve to be sick. He needs to be going to the park and chasing the ducks around, and making friends with all the little girls (he likes them best for some reason). I believe in the power of prayer, so if you have ever thought there may be a god, please get down today and say some words for my son.

    Thank you.

    Oh, dear God...

Please be with little Cole and his whole family. Heal him, Father... Give the family your peace in the midst of this trial. Lord, it is so hard to live in this fallen world with its disease and sorrow. Thank you for being our comfort in times of sadness and times of joy.

Please give Cole's family your joy.

    In Jesus' name, amen.

I know this is so frightening. Please hold on to hope that it is just an infection! I'm sorry the doctor said those words to you, try not to dwell on them and just sit and have a good talk with God. God has this child in his arms and all is well and as it should be. My prayers are with you now.
