My Brother had a Rabbit that was having problems,
Not eating or drinking, or discharging.
Changed the diet and he seemed to be Improving.
Last night this morning it took a turn and he was having respiratory issues.

He did not want to chance any issues with the others so we dispatched him (pellet gun) Was very quick.

I then walked him though the way I skin and clean after lopping off the head.

All the organs (kidneys.liver,heart) looked pristine.

I hang them by the front feet and open them up to gut.

When I Opened the area the lungs and heart are He had a bad abscess (pretty bad) Lots of puss but not smelly or off color, white.

I avoided getting it all over and we washed it good.

All but that abscess he seemed to be pretty healthy.

The Question is would you eat him?

If the Answers yes it will be a crock pot thing, cooked slow and long and thoroughly.

I should also add he was a fat boy, lots of fat.
Never seen a rabbit with so much.

I did process a Deer last week that was loaded up as well.

Gonna be a hard winter I'm thinking.

Sounds like pasturella or other lung issue. You can eat the meat, but not the lungs. Did you take out the lungs before cutting them or did they spill all over the meat? I personally wouldn't eat meat that puss spilled over.

I avoided getting it every where, it got on the guts a bit but came out clean.
also washed my hands and knife after the discovery.

Sounds like pasteurella multocida. Disinfect anything and everything he touched. I wouldn't eat the meat, ESPECIALLY if the pus got on any part of the meat. This is one of those times when you Shoot, Shovel, and Forget.

Just curious is Pasturella bacterial or viral, if the first, I wouldnt worry if cooked thoroughly....

Pasteurella multocida is a bacteria. It is the common causative agent of 'snuffles'.

I saw something posted on FB the other day that the U.S. is supposed to get another MASSIVE amount of snowfall this winter. Maybe you're onto something. Not that I put much stock in stuff I see on FB.
