Another New-Yorker here- I sympathize. One thing that has helped us (a little) is feeding the birds. It's a joy to see something living in this frozen landscape. Having to refill the feeders and suet cake holders forces me to go outside- once I'm out, I find it's really not that bad.
The end of January I usually start onions, leeks and parsley seed- just to get something growing! If you have lights, you can get them off to a good start.
