I just got back from the vet. I knew I would have to do it sooner or later. I wanted later. My 9 year old border collie was mentally ill for 7 years. The last 2 on antipsychotics so she could have some good times. She was much like an autistic child, spinning in place, stareing, no eye contact but sometimes she was wonderful. She was getting too agressive to other animals till it was all animals all the time and at Christmas eve she nipped people. I know I did the right thing but I feel like I failed her. I'm bawling like a baby but I had to unload some of my pain onto some people that will understand loving your dog. I have found this strangly therapeatic(sp) Sorry to dump. Have a kind thought for my beautiful red and white Meg aka Meggie aka Megatron k

Its never a happy moment when you have to give rest to a wounded soul, it will only take time to heal.

She had a life not too many people would have given her. You should be proud of yourself and selfless gift to your dog. My condolences to you.

"I STOOD BESIDE YOUR BED LAST NIGHT"
    --Author unknown

I stood beside your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you so softly as you brushed away a tear,
    "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you everyday
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew ...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
And say "goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

So sorry to hear about your loss. It is always hard to lose a good companion. I have lost pets, and last week, lost my uncle :waa: . It has been hard on the family. Just hang in there and give yourself time. :(

My heart goes out to you. It's so hard to lose a loved one, and having struggled for years to give her a normal life has to make it so much harder. Now it's time to be as kind to yourself as you were to her.

Sorry. Sometimes the last way that you can help them or the only way that you can help them is to let them go. TnTnTn

Much love to you. Its a tough decision and when you've got to go beyond your own needs, and you do it, its special.
I went through Mom & Dad having a real discussion/fight with Scooter, a big black shepherd. Mom wanted to let him go and Dad wanted to keep doctering him. Mom finally took Scooter herself.
I've been through it with the children's animals left in all this mess here on the farm. Missy, a white shepherd mix, was old when we moved here. The eldest cat was Simon and I felt a great responsibilty with him passing on, because he meant a lot to me and he was my daughters beloved feline, and he was a great mouser.
I watched him all day, sleeping on the bed and wondering if I should take him on to the vet, went out early and dug the hole. I wanted it to be natural like he lived up here.
It worked out for Simon and me. He passed on peacefully.
It took me awhile to bury him. I was so afraid there might be life as he lay so still on the bed. And I've got to go through it again with Spanky. He's getting old and grey in the face.
Pay back time! for me. I left my parents in the same situation.
Old Man Spanky is comfey in front of the fire tonight, not caring about the cats. That's what counts. Comfort.
And seeing his Adrienne come home for a visit and they share.
Adrienne and I both talked about and made the decision together that Spanky had lived a country dog life and it wouldn't be fair to take him to the city.
Pets are very much a long term responsibility. And a sadness when they leave us. My heart goes out to you.

Sorry to hear it. I cried and cried when my lab died even though it was best for the poor old fella be released from his misery. It gets better with time.

My heart goes out to you.....our best girl died 10 days ago and I still look, listen and hope to find her around the house everyday. She would always help with chores, slide with the kids and put her head in your hand and lean on you for a snuggle.

I had to come and lean on "the forum" for my snuggle and it helped....hugs to you!

I am so sorry for your loss. Our family pet a beautiful Husky, had to be put down several years ago and it is still upsetting to think about. It is hard because they are so dependent on you and really so innocent. It does get easier with time.

    God bless.

    Thanks, Wags,
We lost our Dobie, Frey, Friday. He tore out the ligaments in his knee
a year ago in November. We paid a bunch for an orthopedist to put it back together. And later, to take out the hardware. It was worthit if it worked.

But there was an infection that wouldn't go away. We had to keep him on
anti-biotics, periodically because it kept flaring up.

Finally, last week he was coughing blood, the infection had got to his lungs.
The vet said she'd try to save him. It wasn't to be.
    He died Friday.
We had him for a companion for five years. Smart & friendly.
I miss my dog, hate the tears.
    'Til later...........
