Everyone is always looking for a niche market, to allow them to make a bit of money while living on the homestead.

Recently, one of my friends who has dabbled in woodworking for years, decided he would start building acoustic guitars. So far, it's looking promising.

Can making musical instruments be a viable homestead business?

I have several friends who are luthiers. All have full time jobs. I is probably possible, but I think you need to become known for your instruments before it would become a career.

Half of his business will be making guitars, half will be marketing them. It may help him to go to music conferences/shows as a vendor to get his product talked about.

It all depends on his product and marketing strategy. If he builds good guitars, and can get them into the hands of people who can afford them it just might work. Like any other business however there are no guarantees.
