Hi there,
Just hoping for a bit of advice: We've recently adopted a heavily pregnant ewe (most likely twins with the size of her). I noticed her in the paddock 2 days ago, separated from the rest of the herd, lying in the sun, frequently licking her lips and had a bright bloody stringy mucous hanging from her rear. I definitely thought she was in labour, she was pacing and bleating every now and then. By the late afternoon she just stopped "labouring", joined the herd and carried on eating and being completely normal. I've been checking on her frequently since and she is acting completely normal: eating plenty, walking around, staying with the herd. I'm worried that there may have been a complication with labour and the lambs were lost and stuck inside her. But on the other hand I may have just been peaking too early and perhaps she will labour in the coming days. She is very suspicious so getting close to her is difficult, but no bad smell so far. But a small additional amount of bright bloody mucous again today. Has anyone else have an experience like this? or any advice?

If you can't get her to the vet, catch her and glove up (or at least wash your hands really well). Go in and see if there's a lamb blocking the exit.

Also, look around and see if she already lambed and left the little one someplace.

Please keep us updated.

Still no change, so we're gloving up and going in today (just waiting for hubby to get home to help). Is a false labor a possibility? She is not acting in any sort of discomfort, or pain or sickness. I am hoping it was a false alarm. This is our first ever lambing and of course it didn't go textbook for us 😣

The fact that she had discharge leads me to believe that it is not false labor. The fact that there was blood in it concerns me that she dropped a lamb or two and lost or abandoned it/them.

I've checked the paddocks and nothing, but im sure the foxes would've been quick to clean up. - So my husband examined her today, he put his hand in and said he felt like he punctured something ( potentially a water bag? or maybe just the cervix?) but there is still a some bright red blood discharge, especially since examining. But definitely no foul smell. she is still happy, standing up and eating fine.

I don't know if you can afford a farm call, or maybe have a friend who understands sheep and/or goats, but you probably need someone who has experience with this sort of thing to have a look at your girl.

Something doesn't seem right.

Did your DH feel a nose or a hoof, or even a butt?

We have a few locals with a lot of sheep experience, unfortunately they're stumped as well and we've got very limited chance of getting a vet out to our area . DH is going to go in again today a bit deeper- i think he got a bit freaked out yesterday and evacuated. thanks for all the help, hopefully we can sort this out and at minimum save this beautiful mumma.
