I am milking my nd doe and bottle feeding the kids. Right now I am getting 6 oz. at a time, so do I need to milk her at every feeding for awhile, or should I mix it with cows milk and only milk 2x daily.
New to milking goats, not sure what to do to get her milk production up.
Thanks,
cindy

For now it is just for the kids, but hope to get enough for us eventually.

How often are you milking her now?

Is there any reason you don't want the kids to just nurse directly from mom?

The more often you empty her udder (and keep it empty), the more she will produce. However, she will only produce as much as her body's health and genetics will allow. She may not produce much as a first freshener, and she may not produce much ever.

They usually peak their production at about 6 weeks fresh, but that depends on her diet, her management, her age, her health, her genetics, the # of kids, the # of freshenings, her... You get the idea. :)

The kids were born friday night, this is her 3rd or 4th kidding, I tried but she would not let them nurse and temps dropped, and they were freezing so I just brought them in. She refuses the kids but will stand nicely for me to milk her.
I have only milked her a few times, morning and night. I wasn't sure if I should milk her more than that.
