I am sure many of you will be sad to hear of his death...

    "Message from the family

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and the many, many cards that you sent to Dad--he sure did smile big when Mom read him the screen names of the senders. At 7:00 this morning, he drew his last breath and went to Heaven to be with his mom, dad, and three brothers.

Words cannot describe how much I miss him already, but I know that his suffering is over at last and that he's in a much better place now.

Thank you to all of you. He loved coming here to preach and spend time with you.

    Sincerely,
    Marty Gibson"

My heart and prayers go out to the Gibsons in this time of grief and loss. Though I know your pain is deep, we do not grieve as those who have no hope.

Hoot, I am so glad you are out of pain and with our dear Lord. Lookin' forward to walking those streets of gold with you, stoppin' by to visit you in your mansion, and praising our God and Father with you through eternity.

    Pony!

I don't know what to say at this and I didn't know what to say on the Countryside Families thread. I hardly knew him but obviously he had two families and was well loved by both. My condolences to his families both here and at his home.

I'm sitting here, listening to The Jesus Record by Rich Mullins and a Ragamuffin Band. On the project is a song written by Rick Elias, Man of No Reputation; it's so beautiful it makes me weep.

Seems to me that Kelly "Hoot" Gibson was a man who cared more for his Savior's reputation than for his own. Hoot cared for the lost, and he wanted to make sure that he shared the Gospel -- the Good News -- of salvation through Jesus.

    Man of No Reputation
    Rick Elias

    Isaiah 1:18, Luke 8:22-25, John 8:30-32
First Corithians 1:18-19, First Corinthians 2:14
    Philippians 2, Revelation 19:7-8

It was said this man was of no reputation
Yet He could stop the rising storm
With a gesture of His hand
But He chose to use His hands to heal
Hearts of darkness, hearts of stone
Just like mine would be revealed

He was a man of no reputation
And by the wise, considered a fool
When He spoke about faith and forgiveness
In a time when the strongest arms ruled

But this man of no reputation
Loved the weak with relentless affection
And He loved all those poor in spirit just as they were
He was a man of no reputation

It was said this man brought only confusion
That He'd achieve his ends by any means
And the truth that it brings revolution
And for once they were right
    The truth set us free

The hearts of the captive were his only concern
And the powerful knew their days were ending

He was a man of no reputation
And by the wise, considered a fool
When He spoke about faith and forgiveness
In a time when the strongest arms ruled

But this man of no reputation
Loved the weak with relentless affection
And He loved all those poor in spirit just as they were
He was a man of no reputation

One day soon the gates of heaven will open wide
And the Prince of Peace will come back for His bride
But for now we live on these streets
    Forbidding and tough

Where push always comes to shove
And it's said love's never enough
Where a prophet in rags gives hope to a fearful world
No injustice, no heart of darkness
Will keep this voice from being heard

He was a man of no reputation
And by the wise, considered a fool
When He spoke about faith and forgiveness
In a time when the strongest arms ruled

But this man of no reputation
Loves us all with relentless affection
And He loves all those poor in spirit, come as you are
To the man of no reputation

May his family find peace in knowing that he is no longer suffering and happiness in their memories of him.

Our condolences to his family. He was a good man no doubt, and that came through here as clear as if he was standing in the same room with you. He'll be missed.

I can't believe I am sitting here teary eyed over a man whom I only knew through this site. Goes to show you that you never know how much of an impact there is when one life touches another, no matter how tenous the connection. My condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed.

Mellisa, is there anyway we can put together a post with some of Hoot's "preaching" posts as a sort of memorial?
