My 5 yo kinder doe kidded 3 days ago and half of her bag is rock hard. The other half milks beautifully, but of course has streaks of blood in it. I am going to the feed store today to pick of some meds. My questions are:
Can the rock hard half be salvaged? Does she need to go to the vet? With the one side rock hard, will I be able to get the other side to clear up? If I do get the otherside to clear up can I feed the milk to the kids? Last question - If I can't get the rock hard side to clear up can the vet remove it? She is our favorite doe and has multiple births every year and I hate to have her in pain. Two years ago she produced a Reserve Grand Champion at our county fair.

Any help you guys can give would be very much appreciated, as I obviously don't know much about mastitis.

    Thanks in advance,
    Anne

After masaging can you milk any of it out? It will be thick, nasty cottage cheesish stuff, but getting as much of it out as possible will help. Good luck, mastitis is no fun!!
