I was surprised this morning to find that no one had posted about the death of lady Bird Johnson yesterday. SHE was a fine lady. I remember hearing how the Washington wives made fun of her and her accent. Seems to me she outclassed Mrs. Kennedy, and Jackie had class.

Lady Bird was a fine woman, and Washington DC is a much prettier place due to her beautification efforts. She was no slouch as a business woman either, and was a much better manager than her husband in that regard. As it should be, she could deal with her husband in a way that no one else could. A biographer on the radio yesterday said that with two words, she could always get him to calm down when he lost his temper. The two words: "now, Lyndon".
