Were you celebrating her tweet?

Do you go out of YOUR way to see people fired for their tweets.

It’s getting ridiculous.

Let’s see, should people get fired for their tweets before he died now too?

I'm not the one crying because a untalented low rated late night host got fired. ABC is a private company that uses public air waves. They made a business decision. If Kimmel wants to spout his BS he can go to a podcast or cable show. His rights have not been violated in any way.

Were you outraged when Roseanne was fired by ABC for a tweet? She didn't even make her comments on air. Or is your outrage for celebrities losing their job only reserved for far left talentless hacks?
The Free speech laws in the US are based on government interference. There is an appearance of government interference in recent firings. If that is not the case, then it should be no problem for either left or right when people are "cancelled" because they express their viewpoints. The lawsuits and discovery they create should show us if there is a foot on the scale.

If the government has put its foot on the scale, then there is plenty of reasons for people to be up in arms. I have conducted some research on this forum, and it appears that some individuals expressing views on the right have been just as vocal in the past about what they believe constitutes free speech, and have posted quite an uproar about comedians and others being silenced by their employers due to their use of free speech. There are also several examples of complaints about left-leaning government officials using their positions to silence others' free speech.

This seems to be a great forum for information, opinions, and ideas on the subject. You seem to use your free speech to denigrate those with whom you disagree a bit more than others.

I have not shed a tear. I’m just an observer in all of this hoopla.
The lawsuits have begun, maybe not for Kimmel, but for people fired from their jobs.

People being killed for their beliefs, tendencies, ideals, what ever you want to call it.
.
I did not mean generally, but specifically about Charlie Kirk, the man.
By most accounts, his purpose of going onto college campuses was to make efforts, even as someone despised by a great number of those on campus, to show that Americans can disagree and still discuss why.

It might surprise you to know I had never heard of Charlie Kirk before his death.

It might also surprise you to know I don’t watch Kimmel.

Not at all. I'm just pointing out that he was labeled a fascist by many people. Yet, if a Nazi had toured from University to university in Germany during the 1930s, in order to have a dialogue, the courtyards would have been vacant. Mr. Kirk had mobs of young people who stood in line to discuss or debate with him.
We had a member on HT respond to his death by posting "Good riddance".
So if you have never heard of the man before, from what are you basing your viewpoint?

Ive always believed that the best way to get somebody to understand why something is wrong, is to put them on the receiving end.

I think there are a few on the left that might actually have a revelation about the importance of free speech and the evils of censoring, banning, cancelling etc.

That must have taken up quite a bit of your time, as you have only been here for 9 days. I mean, browsing through each member's post history, looking for just a certain type of response, that is awesome. I mean, most folks who have been members for years, even decades, can't compile such information.
If you don't mind, would you be a help and post some of those posts you are referring to? Thanks.

My viewpoint?, what exactly do you think my viewpoint is?

Should the member that posted “good riddance” be bounced from this forum?

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Jimmy Kimmel worked for a private company. Private companies are well within their rights to take action against employees for making untrue statements. Especially a compnay like ABC that uses public airwaves. ABC did the right thing as they have an obligation with their licensing agreement to not deliberalty distort facts which Kimmel obviously did.

Was loudmouth Jimmy put in jail for his comments? NO. So his rights were not violated. And really the last thing i need is a lecture on free speech from a Canadian. Your country is an absolute embarassment when it comes to free speech and freedom in general.

Are you claiming that employers don't have the right to remove employees for reprehensible behavior that reflects poorly on the company? Good luck with that lawsuit.
I am fully aware have that right, they can fire without cause too. Satisfied?

A recent lawsuit.

“A lawsuit was filed on Thursday in the Southern District of Iowa. Kargol claims the Oskaloosa Community School District and the district's superintendent, Michael Fisher, violated his constitutional right to free speech.”

“The post in question was made on Kargol's personal account when he was off-duty, according to the lawsuit. The suit claims Kargol's post was "rhetorical hyperbole" and did not threaten anyone or incite violence.
The lawsuit also claims that Kargol's Facebook profile did not identify him as an Oskaloosa school employee and there was nothing about the post that "connected his speech to his employment" or impacted his ability to do his job.”

You can get a shady liberal lawyer to file a lawsuit about anything. Doesn't mean it has any legal standing. A ****bag like that should not be teaching childrent and school district did the right thing.
