I had the same reaction when gefeltefish was placed in front of me. Growing up I would go to my best friend's for Passover sedar and her father told me you drink the Manischevitz so you can't taste the gilfetefish. He was 100% correct. LOL
Kugel is really good if it's made properly. It's a custard, similar to rice pudding, made with noodles (usually leftover from dinner the night before).
I can't understand those guy's problem with the gefilte fish and the chopped liver.
Years ago I saw some tv show, where some Jewish grandma was showing how she made gefilte fish from scratch. She was mixing everything with her hand, made them into little balls, and then licked her fingers. Grandson asked if she wasn't afraid of salmonella. Gramma says, "Salmonella, smalmonela!" That's when I knew I was in love.
