My 3 year old Jersey cow had her calf 5 days ago. I have been leaving mama and baby together the whole time and bringing mom in first thing in the morning to milk. She has one quarter that’s damaged from previous owners not handling a bad case of mastitis. I am only getting 2 quarts a day out of the other three quarters. She is eating alfalfa twice a day, oat and barely mixture of grain with a little added molasses twice a day. She has salt and green grass hay free choice. She is used to the milking routine as I started bringing her in even before she calved, just to get her used to it.
Anyone have any idea why I’m not getting more milk? I’m starting to get bummed out, this is my first milk cow and 2 quarts a day is certainly not worth all the work put in.
Thanks!

Maybe try posting this down in the cattle section, you'll probably get a better response,My guess is you should try seperating them overnight and milk her before reuniting them.
