Got an '82 Jeep Wrangler. It shifts ok,but has bad vibration, and will kick out of second gear.Wife seems to think it is front Bearing.

She said all there is,is an Oil Seal and couple clips holding it in.She says just pull it out,put new one back in and go.Long as that is all thats wrong.

She will be working on it.Is she right? I've never worked on Transmission.

A bad input shaft bearing would more likely affect 4th gear , I would suspect bad countershaft bearings which means the transmission would have to be completly disassembled.

there is an outside chance it might be a bad front 'u' joint I would check it first.

Book under trouble shooting says front Bearing, plus the Oil Seal is leaking. But looking at it,it don't look all that difficult, long as you keep track of where the parts go.

BRP If I can remember that tranny has needle bearings on the tail of the input shaft. Lots of them. I blew mine inline six, mated that tranny to a mopar 340 v8 in a Jeep J10.

BTW could use the engine out of your jeep, and maybe your wife could do the engine swap too.......
As my nephew's future husband had dropped off his "93 jeep wrangler at the barn. Said engine troubles. You can see daylight shining through the side of the block. Number 2 rod cleaned the block and oilpan. Looking for a motor.
