Ever since we moved to the edge of town and got cable, our son watches cartoons a bit more than he used to, and I'm afraid I just don't understand some things:

Why doesn't Sponge Bob ever complain that he feels "puffy" from retaining water?

After blowing himself up so many times, why doesn't the coyote quit chasing the roadrunner and become a vegetarian or, perhaps, just die?

Why doesn't Popeye just eat spinich for breakfast so that he'll be ready for anything?

Why doesn't anyone ever have to clean up Clifford the Big Red Dog's poop?

I'm sure there are things that puzzle other folks.

It took me a long time to figure out "Thomas the Tank Engine" before I got the whole Ringo Starr, George Carlin, Magic Dust (wink, wink) thing.

As we tell our children about SpongeBob, "It's a show starring a talking sponge, logic isn't the goal." That applies to the literate coyote as well as Clifford. I'm still working on the Popeye one.

I had never considered the "Thomas" thing...hmmm.
