...but I miss the days when the gals played on banked tracks.
A friend's daughter is a member of a area flat track roller derby league team and explained to us since roller derby no longer has corporate sponsors who foot the bills and pay players,they use the flat skating rinks and the women on the teams furnish their own gear.
GF and I enjoy watching them compete and knowing that the $12.50 a ticket gets split between rink maintenance and charity, but I still miss the speed of banked roller derby tracks as the girls elbow and slam each other.
It is still a fun night out and the woman we know who skates with her team said although there are friendships between members of opposing teams , it isn't as fake as national guard armory wrestling was in the 60s and 70s.
