    Happy birthday dear Hannah,
Happy birth... rough, rough, rough, rough,...

My youngest grandgirl had her 1st bithday party right out back Saturday! It was a wonderful day, including...

It seems my whole herd of does came in to season over the past week. Knowing that we had a big birthday party scheduled for Saturday, I made it a point to keep our newest Boer buck (Billy-Bob) out of sniffing distance of the girls. This has never been a problem, as our double "stud" fencing has always worked in the past... Oh well... so much for that record!

Without anyone's knowledge, one of the grandkids decided closing gates was way too much work, so suddenly, and right in the middle of the Happy Birthday song (which they don't let me sing along to anymore... something about fingernails and a blackboard), along comes 6 screaming does with a buck built like a red and white tank barking them onward! And then, before anyone could do anything about anything, Billy suddenly had them girls circled and proceded to do what bucks do... and with a vengence... right there, in front of God, a herd of city moms, and all our grandbabies!

Now we've got a buck doing what one kid discribed as, "He's stabbing them to death with that pencil thing,"...

The next thing I hear, I'm being asked by 7 grandbabies (in the 5-10 year old range), and two terribly concerned mothers, "What's that big goat doing to those poor little goats?"

Thank goodness, my four year old grandboy fielded that one for me ('cause I was kinda indisposed at the time). He lives with us, and I try to explain EVERYTHING he asks me about the farm, so he really gets tickled when he knows something some of the older kids don't!

He stand up with his chest out and shoulder's back, clears his throat and says loud enough for neighbors in three counties to hear, "He is breded them."

I lost it back about the time of the "pencil" remark, shooting punch out my mouth and nose! Hey... it hurt! It also hurt when my beloved elbowed me in the rib-cage for laughing... which helped alot... I fell out of my chair laughing even harder!

The boys ended up chasing the whole herd down to a lower pasture... I was still laughing when they returned a half hour later!

    Sometimes you just can't win!

That was a great story!! :) Never a dull moment when we own goats-is there. That's right up there w/my youngest telling his whole kindergarten class all about our buck during breeding season-at "share time"-many years ago! (his teacher called me too let me know! :nono: )

Thank you for sharing that one - I type through tears running down my face! I'm glad I wasn't reading over my morning coffee - which I usually do - or it would be coming out my nose too!

Please, Please invite me to your next party=)...ours are so dull in comparison.

Our farm critters always do ***shocking things*** in front of city folks too!

After kidding season this year, my 4 yr old daughter was playing in nursery at church...she was helping "deliver" another girl's baby. "I see the head!" "Here it comes!"
"Take it easy, I'll help you, we just need to move a leg!" I tried to calm the Child care workers and assure them that she wasn't a blossoming pervert...with twisted ideas of "appropriate play" she was just a farm kid. Thank goodness my boys never imitated the "piggy back rides"
    =)
