Husband just got e-mail deaththreat?

I am sure beyond a doubt it is a spam thing, with poor grammar, addressed to "unknown," etc. but rather upsetting. Requesting $5000 to stop the supposed "hit" on his life and family. He says we should call the FBI...I would delete it and ignore it. Still, a bit overboard for the usual "I need $2000 for family so sick in America..." Very unsettling.

Wow! Not sure what I would do... perhaps at least report it to the police. That way, if _anything_ comes of it, there is a record.
It is a known email, my husband received one about 4 months ago the local cops were idiots and told him to reply and we got so much aggravation from it. All police were issued a detailed information about this and when hubby talked to a local FBI guy he was shocked the local cops had him reply Do not reply delete it or if you want send a copy to the local FBI and polica station
Even though it's clearly spam, I would report it anyway.
Thank you!!! I figured as much. you guys are great.
I would report it to the FBI if I received something like this, especially since your local police were no help at all with the previous incident.
Read information on this scam here:

It is crapola, however, hubby may be right about contacting the FBI. There's a link in the information above directing you to the correct FBI website to report this.

Don't sweat it. :)

Even though it's probably not a threat -- I'd still report it.

If some people (I'm thinking of my mom who is very gullible) got an email like that, they'd probably have a heart attack just reading it!

Instead, turn it around on them. I'd report it ASAP and let the creeps who sent the email have a heart attack once they realize the FBI is onto them. Now that would be funny. :D

I love Snopes!!! Thank you, guys. We figured scam. We'll report it to the website Snopes listed.

My hubby had talked to a friend who said that sometimes you will get a follow-up e-mail from the "FBI" stating that they caught the guys and to respond with the details of your particular case!!!!!!! These guys are getting so good.
It's a scam?

Now you tell me.

I've been typing with pointed sticks poked through the wall of sandbags for a couple of months, now.

Now Oggie you just know what those cats are capable of and you didn't think they could type?

LOL to funny
It's just a nigerian trying to get your money. It's a common e-mail scam.

I've been the recipient of many internet death threats over the years and give them as much thought as I do an ant crawling across my driveway. Amusing but hardly anything to get all worked up over. I've had people threaten to hunt me down and kill me or torture me or burn my house down with me tied inside. Just doesn't concern me. Some nitwit threatening me over teh intarwebs just doesn't concern me.

Phew!

I'm glad that you didn't try to shoot the guy through your computer.

I've received the Nigerian scam emails countless times but never a death threat. I, personally, would not take a death threat lightly. Threats are frowned upon by LE. The send-me-money-and-I-will-send-you-$10,000,000 Nigerian scams are one thing. A death threat is another.
Back in the mid 90's I received one of the Nigerian scam type e-mails asking me to purchase a boat and I would be sent the money. Strange thing was though that my name, address, phone number and business information was in the e-mail but it was sent to my personal e-mail address, not the business one and the two were not linked together. I contacted AOL who suggested I call the police who in turn called AOL. It was definitely creepy.
Are we losing our common sense? :(

Worrying about email death threats addressed to "unknown"? What about those who think, conspiring with an exiled dicatator to hide his millions$, is a wise financial choice?

These well-documented scams, would go away next week, if everyone simply learned judicious use of the "delete" key.
When you responded did you wish them well in the great beyond?
