If you get catastrophic health insurance you can then start a HSA, correct? If you do this and keep money in the HSA what happens if you then get a job with employer provided health insurance?

I don't think the money can be withdrawn. Also, it can't be used to pay your insurance premiums. I think you could use it to pay things like deductibles and prescription drug co-pays, which you'd probably have even with employer-provided insurance.

Talk to an insurance agent, preferably the one who sold you the policy, they should be able to answer your questions or get the answers for you. I am just finishing up setting up a catastrophic policy for my family due to the cost of the policy at work being ridiculous but have yet to set up the actual HSA acct.

Here is a link to basically any question you may have. If not you can call and ask them they were great to deal with. We had one for a while but now my wife's job as affordable family coverage. HSA's are really a good thing in my opinion. You would be surprised at just what you can use the money for and its all tax deductable. I had Lasik eye surgery done and that was on the list. You can use it to cover the premiums IF you are collecting unemployent.
